The NEW Harmonica project was proud to host a joint session with its two sister projects, NAPSEA and NORDBALT-ECOSAFE, during the Sixth International Conference on Land Use and Water Quality (LUWQ 2025), held from 3–6 June 2025 at Aarhus University, Denmark.

This collaborative session provided a platform for interdisciplinary exchange among researchers, policy analysts, and water resource managers, focusing on transboundary strategies to mitigate agricultural nutrient pollution across diverse socio-environmental contexts in Northwestern Europe.

The session exemplified the value of a transdisciplinary, systems-based approach, integrating biophysical modelling, governance analysis, and stakeholder engagement to develop actionable pathways for sustainable nutrient management at the river basin scale.

LUWQ 2025 attracted a diverse scientific and professional audience, including hydrologists, agronomists, ecologists, economists, social scientists, and decision-makers, fostering an environment conducive to methodological innovation and policy-relevant dialogue.

Insights gained from this session will inform the advancement of nutrient reduction strategies across the four NEW Harmonica case studies, the Meuse, Neagh-Bann, and Wye river basins, and support broader efforts toward harmonised, evidence-based water quality governance in Europe.
