NEW Harmonica

Recent reports indicate that 75-90% of the surface water bodies in NW Europe have failed to meet the goal of safe ecological status. There is a huge challenge for the agricultural sectors to implement effective mitigation measures to reduce nutrient emissions. The NEW Harmonica project has been formed with the goal of bringing in complementary knowledge and expertise, skills and networks to reduce nutrient emissions in four catchments: Meuse (Belgium and the Netherlands), Neagh-Bann (N. Ireland), and Wye (England). Within the project, existing models and tools will be applied and tested, Best Management Practices will be evaluated, and governance and policy scenarios will be developed and assessed to achieve multiple desired environmental outcomes in the four catchments.

NEW Harmonica field trip provides insights in enhancing water quality in the Flemish Meuse catchment

During the NEW Harmonica consortium meeting in Hasselt the Flanders Environment Agency (VMM) organised a field trip within the Flemish Meuse catchment. The field trip went to the north of the Flemish province of Limburg.

Neagh-Bann catchment field trip

On the 5^th of October 2023, during the NEW Harmonica annual meeting, a field trip to the Neagh-Bann catchment was organized by the local host, Agri-Food & Biosciences Institute (AFBI).

Third NEW Harmonica meeting discusses progress and plans for the future

The third meeting of the NEW Harmonica project was held on the 10th and 11th of April 2024 in Hasselt, Belgium. Hosted by the Flanders Environment Agency (VMM), the meeting saw task leaders present their progress from the project’s first year and discuss plans for the upcoming year.
